Introduction to making money on Google
Does this really work?
A lot of people have never heard about making money on Search Engines before. You may have heard about it, but not sure how to participate in it…
The reality is that anyone can learn how to develop an income stream from Search Engines.
More and more people are participating every week. Lots of people are learning how to generate cash from Search Engines and the market is HUGE! One of the best things is, the number of people on the internet is constantly growing, the number of people searching and buying online is growing, so that means the opportunities are just getting bigger and bigger!
You have the opportunity to take a small slice of this multi-billion dollar pie. You don’t have to compete with the big boys … you can find your own little niche area and make a very nice income in an area that big companies would never think of competing in (because it is too small for them).
While $50k, $100k or $200k per year is too small for a company, I bet you’d be happy with the cash coming in to your bank account (especially if you can get a few lots of it happening, and only work a few hours a week…)
Case Study: Colin Fabig – Iraqi cards on Google
Let’s get straight into an example of one way you can make money on Google (in this membership site we are going to cover several different ways). Let’s look at the example of how Colin Fabig promoted the Iraqi cards on Google.
You may remember that during the Iraq war there was a deck of cards promoted called the “55 most wanted Iraqi leadersâ€. These cards were promoted heavily on television and they started selling on the Internet. Colin saw the opportunity. He saw that people were buying these cards in droves. This was a fad … and perfect for the Internet. What would people do after they saw them on TV and decided that they wanted to get the cards? They searched on the Internet. And where do people search? Well, there is more than one search engine but Google is by far the largest search engine on the Net. More people search on Google than any other search engine on the Internet. In fact over 200 million people search per day on Google. Some of those people were searching for iraq cards. This is where Colin came in.
Firstly he discovered an affiliate program on the Internet to promote these Iraqi cards. This affiliate program gave him a nice commission of 15% for each pack of cards sold. On average he was going to make $4.50 for each pack of cards sold. We’ll talk later on in the membership site about affiliate programs and how to find affiliate programs. How the affiliate program works is that he simply needs to sign up (this is mostly done online – you simply fill in your name and details in an online form). Then he gets a special tracking code to say that the visitors came from him. Then when a person buys the card the merchant (the person selling the cards), accepts the credit card details and they record that the person came via Colin (because of the special tracking code). At the end of the month they will send him out a check.
So he decided to try advertising on Google. He signed up for a Google Adwords advertising account (this costs $5 to sign up), and then he has to pay for everyone that clicks on his advertisement (usually he pays between 5 and 50 cents but he might pay up to $5 depending on how much he bids).
Next he came up with a list of keywords that people might search for on Google when they are looking for Iraqi cards. In his case, the keywords he came up with were:
- deck of cards
- iraq card
- Iraqi card
- Iraqi cards
- card deck
- playing cards
- us playing card
- us playing cards
- cards
He was bidding on average $0.05 to $0.25 for each of these keywords. This means that he spent on average 15 cents for each person that clicked through to his ad. In the ad he put the tracking code for the affiliate program that he had signed up for with the Iraqi cards. So he didn’t even need to create his own website.
All up it took him 4 hours of work to complete these steps. After this he had virtually no work at all, other than banking the checks. And in a few short weeks he had made $12,353.27. Not bad for 4 hours work.
The basic structure of a Google Adwords campaign
On this page you will find the basic steps of putting together a Google Adwords campaign.
This guideline showcases the simplest and quickest way of making money on Search Engines. It contains the same steps that Colin Fabig went through when creating the Iraqi cards campaign.
I am going to refer back to this page throughout the rest of The Search Engine Institute course. I strongly suggest you print this page out and use it as a guideline for all your Google Adword campaigns.
Here are the basic steps that he went through to set up this campaign:
Step 1: Find an area of opportunity where there is an affiliate program with the potential of making some good money on a Search Engine.
Step 2: Sign up for the affiliate program and get your own unique tracking code.
Step 3: Sign up for Google Adwords.
Step 4: Research keywords for this Google Adwords campaign. These are the keywords that if someone is searching on Google for that keyword, your ad will show up.
Step 5: Create your Google Adwords campaign advertising the product or service
Step 6: Analyze the initial results – if you discover that with your initial testing you are making good money then you will want to continue with the campaign.
Step 7: Sit back and watch the profits roll in.
This is a simple process, but it is important that you master all 7 of these steps (especially no 7!) in order to run a successful Search Engine campaign. It is possible to do the firs 5 steps in a short space of time such as 1-2 hours. However it is advisable to do things thoroughly and spend more time on researching keywords. When you first start out running Search Engine campaigns it might take you 8-10 hours to do your first campaign. After a while you will be able to get this down, so it won’t take you so long.
The benefit is of course that once you have done the initial work, there is very little on-going work that you need to do. After the initial set-up the rest of it is pretty easy. We will be walking you though all 6 steps in running a successful Adwords campaign. Step 7 we will leave up to you!
The six secrets to making money on Search Engines
Secret #1
The first secret to making money on Search Engines is to find opportunities to advertise on Google Adwords for 5 cents when other people are paying 50 cents $1 or more. If you can find ways to advertise for only 5 cents per visitor then you can get 10 visitors for the same price as someone who is paying 50 cents per visitor. This leaves a lot more room for you to make profit. By the way, if you are new to all this and don’t know what Google Adwords is then you will need to learn all of the basics of how it works which will find The Search Engine Institute membership site.
So how do you get visitors for 5 cents when other people are paying 50 cents? There are are over 17 ways you can do this in The Search Engine Institute membership site, but to get you started here is one easy and great way to do it. We really shouldn’t be giving this information away for free as this one bit of information alone, if properly applied, can make you thousands of dollars. However, here it is:
Lets say you are advertising web hosting services. Many people who are searching for web hosting will use the phrase “web hostingâ€. If you try to advertise on Google for the phrase “web hosting†it will cost you a minimum of $1 per click and probably up to $3-5 per click. However about 0.3% of people will actually type in the phrase with no space between the words. They just type in “webhostingâ€. Similarly they will type in many other phrases with no spaces between the words, such as “cheapwebhostingâ€. When you advertise on Search Engines using these phrases with no gaps between the words, you will often be able to get clicks for 5 or 10 cents when other people are paying $1.
Secret #2
The second secret to making money on Search Engines is that you must find products and areas to advertise that have a high profit per sale, and you should try to make more money per sale than other people who are advertising the same product or service.
There are a few ways to do this:
1. Find an area which has a high profit per customer. Generally you are looking for products where you get a commission of $30 or more. For example, web hosting or high value ebooks.
2. You can find an area where you might not have such a high initial commission, but there is the chance of repeat commissions, because the customer comes back to buy the product again.
3. You can create a website which compares different product or services and so if the person comes to your site they have a choice of various products. Whatever product they buy you get a commission, and they may actually buy more than one product from you.
4. One other way to increase the profit per visitor is to pick products where the conversion ratio is very high. That means you want products that when people see them they are very likely to buy. The Iraqi cards were a good example of this. When Colin Fabig advertised the Iraqi cards he was only making about $10 per pack of cards (less than the $30 that we normally want to make per sale), however the cards were so novel that most people who were searching for them wanted to buy them. This means that in the end he was making a significant profit per visitor.
Secret #3
The third secret is that you must find areas to advertise where few people are competing with you. There are many hundreds, thousands, of products and services that people buy on the Internet. If you concentrate on a competitive area you are going to be in trouble because you will have dozens of other people trying to advertise on Search Engines for the same product. This drives up competition and increases the prices to advertise on Search Engines.
However there are still many niche areas where it is very cheap to advertise on Search Engines. These areas will allow you to advertise without any or much competition. This makes it much much easier for you to make money.
So how do you find a niche area to advertise. This is the tricky part, and we talk about exactly how to do it in The Search Engine Institute membership site. The reason why people are not advertising that product or service on a Search Engine is probably because they haven’t really thought about it before. It means you have to think outside the box and do a lot of thinking and research. Look at odd product or services that you buy. Look for things that the average person has probably not even thought of, or doesn’t even know that they exist. If you have expertise in that area it makes it easier for you to know what is going on.
Let’s say you are an architect, or you have a friend who is an architect. Ask your friend what type of software they use, and what type of other equipment they use. After asking them you find out they use rendering software. You search and find that there are quite a few people searching for “rendering software” on the web. You then find a company who sells rendering software and who is willing to give you a commission. You then advertise the software on Google and you are up and away, making a nice stream of cash, with little competition.
Secret #4
The fourth secret is to get free visitors from Search Engines by getting high quality links from other sites.
It is ok if you are only paying 5 cents to get visitors from Search Engines when other people are paying 50 cents. But it is even better if you don’t have to pay anything at all. This is obviously the best option because you are getting people to visit your site and you didn’t pay one cent for these people. They were absolutely free. Any yet you can make good money from each person who visits your site.
However it is not necessarily easy to get free visitors. In The Search Engine Institute membership site we look at a simple 7 step process that shows you exactly how to get free visitors.
The most important step is to get links from other sites. There is an easy and slightly sneaky way to do this: find out what your competitors are doing and copy them. You can search on Search Engines to find out who is linking to your competitor’s sites (or other sites in a similar area to yours). Let’s say your competitor’s site is www.xyzcompany.com. You can search on Google for “link:www.xyzcompany.com”. This will give you a list of the most important sites that link to xyz company. It will not show you all the links, but that’s ok because you don’t want all the links. You only want the high quality links. These links are the highest quality links that will help you the most to get free listings in Search Engines. So you can simply go to each of these sites and ask them if they would like to exchange links with your site. Simple, but extremely effective.
Secret #5
The fifth secret to making money with Search Engines is to use Google Adsense. This is a way that you can actually put Google ads on YOUR site and you will make money for every person that clicks on your ad. Did you know that for some areas you can make $1 and more for every person that clicks on your ad? All you need is 50 people per day clicking on your ad, that’s a nice little income of $50 per day. And they don’t even have to buy anything, they just have to click on your ad! It’s an amazing way to make money on a Search Engine.
You can actually create a perpetual Search Engine money making machine. To do this, you get free visitors from Google from a free listing in Google of your web page. Then you put up Google ads on your web page and you get paid for every person that clicks on those ads. This way you are making money from Google and you didn’t pay one cent. Everyone is happy. Google is happy because they are taking a cut from all the money they give to you, the advertiser is happy because the person is buying a product or service from them, and you are definitely happy because you are getting a check from Google and once you have set it up, you can sit back and do absolutely nothing whilst your perpetual Search Engine money making machine is making you money.
The sixth secret is what ties it all together. If you use this secret you will make money so much faster and easier. The sixth secret is …
Secret #6
So in the past 5 pages we looked at:
- How you can advertise on Google for 5 cents when other people are paying 50 cents.
- You must focus on areas that are highly profitable with a nice commission for you.
- You need to find areas where there is less competition.
- You can also create a perpetual Search Engine money making machine by getting free listings in Google and then putting up Google ads that make you money.
To accelerate the whole thing you must use the sixth secret. This secret is that you must be content at first to start with small bits of income of $50 per week because if you have 10 income streams of $50 per week that equals $500 per week, which is not too bad. Keep reading to find out how to set up your $50 income streams…
